aspartate ammonia-lyase
Coding sequence for AspA enzyme. AspA aminates fumarate to make aspartate. Aspartate can be used as a bacterial chemotaxis signal.
AspA mainly catalyzes the deamination of L-aspartic acid to produce fumarate and ammonium ion, though it can produce L-aspartate from excessive amount of fumarate and ammonium ion. Amination property is often exploited to produce L-aspartate in an industrial condition.
